Illustration - FELINEous Caper
ILLUSTRATION - BOOK COVER
Project Objective: Re-imagine and redesign the complete front, back, and spine artwork for an existing commercially published book
Role: Lead Graphic Designer & Illustrator (Concept Development, Custom Illustration, Typography, & Layout)
Intended Audience: Readers, cat lovers, humor enthusiasts, and retail bookstore shoppers
Software & Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Brand & Design Considerations: Conceptualized a narrative illustration featuring custom cat-like typographic accents integrated directly into the main book title
Accessibility & Production Considerations: Engineered a full-wrap cover layout (front, spine, back) with precise spine typography alignment optimized for vertical retail shelf displays and standard print prepress bleed specs
Project Description: As lead designer and illustrator for a school project, I executed a full visual redesign for the popular humor book How To Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You. Moving away from the original cover art, I conceptualized a dark comedy scene depicting a playful owner oblivious to their scheming cat, complete with a concealed weapon coiled subtly inside the feline's tail. Working in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I hand-illustrated the artwork, styled the custom title typography with subtle feline motifs, and built a balanced full-wrap cover layout. The final deliverable ensured the spine typography was precisely aligned for high-visibility vertical display on retail library and bookstore shelves.
